Phaweng Bahula

Phaweng Bahula

Phaweng Bahula is the Chairman of AFI Africa. He was born in Mmela village, Sekhukhuneland in Limpopo, South Africa. He is the grandson of chief Mmela, as a result having the privileges of inner circles of royalty.

Phaweng is a fully iniated Pedi man and spent his formative years at Mmela village, where he learned about his culture, customs and traditions.

He completed his primary education at Radimela Community School and secondary education at Fetakgomo High school in Limpopo. He then transferred to Johannesburg to complete a national diploma of Chemical Engineering at Witwatersrand Technikon.

He worked for AECI, Colgate Palmolive, SASOL and Kempton Park municipality before starting his own business in South Africa.

Phaweng came to Australia in 2007 and worked for RAMS Home Loans, AMES Australia, Australia for UNHCR, Greenpeace Australia, National Union of Workers and Australian Council of Trade Unions.

Now based in South Africa, Phaweng is excited to be leading the growth of Footy 9s in Africa.

Makgetsepe Michelle Sekhukhune

Makgetsepe Michelle Sekhukhune

Makgetsepe was born and bred in and around Sekhukhuneland. She started her primary elementary education at Schoonoord, finishing at Boiketlo Primary School, Seshego in 1985.

She completed her secondary education in 1989 and went on to study for a Diploma in Teaching at Sekhukhune College of Education. She slso completed her Certificate in Human Resources with IPM through Damelin Correspondence College in 1996.

Makgetsepe is currently a Constituent Assessor and Moderator with ETDP SETA, with 21 years of experience in relation to Education and Training, and as a Facilitator and Life Coach.

Having served as a Secretary of the School Governing Body at Mogale Wa Bagale Tech School, she is also a Secretary of Greater Middelburg Community Radio Station.

Rob Flude AFI Africa

Rob Flude

Originally from Cape Town, Rob has worked in Digital Transformation and Technology roles for some of the world’s leading sporting, financial, retail and e-commerce institutions. Some of his employers and clients have been Basketball Australia, Celtic FC, Genius Sports, Surf Life Saving Australia, ANZ, NAB, HSBC and Jeanswest.

He is currently a digital consultant into the sports industry and helps produce a leadership podcast called The Inner Chief. Rob also co-founded an athlete transition platform called The Final Whistle and served as the Sports Editor for a UK-based print and online publication (The South African).

Rob helped set up the UK Springbok Supporters Club and sat on the Australian Rugby Business Network’s committee as the Communications & Technology Manager. He has also worked with a leading online education business, etrainu, to grow and service their sports vertical globally. He is a family man with 3 kids and is a passionate Hawthorn fan.
