Why Footy 9s in Cameroon
Our aim is to empower people and communities through sport, we all know that sport is fundamental to society, culture, and economy. Participation in sport improves mental and physical health, enhances community well-being, and contributes significantly to give our young women and men a better path in life. Cameroon has a long history of talented athletes in many sports worldwide.
Footy 9s and the Australian Identity
Sport is widely believed to be integral in defining the Australian identity. Australians have a remarkable and enduring affection for sport – loving to both play and watch.
Australian Football International (AFI) strongly believes that Footy 9s has huge potential to become a truly international sport. Indeed, one of our major aims is the eventual inclusion of Footy 9s in the Olympic Games.
Australian Football has been an excellent platform for Australians indigenous to express their skills, unique talents, and abilities off and on the pitch.
Introduce Footy 9s in Cameroon
As part of our Strategic Plan, in Cameroon we would like to integrate the game in schools, targeting vulnerable and disadvantaged communities, the Councils and the Force Army and Police.
Footy 9s is easy to make numbers, fun, less contact, and safe
The kicking, running, jumping, tackling, passing, and scoring will be easy for any athlete to integrate.
Footy 9s Carnivals
We will organise Footy 9s carnival in schools, communities, Councils and Force Army and Police Bases.
Learn – Play – Enjoy – Compete
Footy 9s Regionals Championships
Assisting and structuring teams within the communities to start a Regional Championship by the end of 2024 / early 2025.
Footy 9s States Championships
Australian Football International (AFI) and AFI Cameroon to partner with 7 Councils in Yaounde and 6 Councils in Douala to support teams local teams for a state championship.
Cameroon First Nation People to play Footy 9s
Introduce Footy 9s to the pygmies.
Footy 9s in the Olympics Games
Have a strategic planning with the Cameroon Sport Ministry and National Olympic Committee for Footy 9s.
