AFI has developed professional Lesson Plans for the various skills of the game, which have been designed for international school teachers. Please click on the buttons below to download each Lesson Plan.
HANDBALLING
Children will develop the skill of handballing. Teaching points for children will include supporting the ball with the platform hand, making a clenched fist with the striking hand, standing side-on, stepping forward onto front foot and catching their fist on striking the ball.
MARKING
Children will develop the skills of catching the ball on their chest and in their hands. Teaching points for children will include lining their body up with the flight of the ball and keeping their eyes on the ball until it is caught.
KICKING
Children will begin to develop the skills of kicking the ball. Teaching points for children will include keeping their eyes on the ball until kicked, stepping forward on non-kicking foot, keeping a firm instep at contact and pointing the toe of the kicking foot at the target.
BOUNCING
Children will learn the skill of bouncing the football. Teaching points will include having the guiding hand on the side of the ball, bending the arm at the elbow, pushing down with one hand, fingers pointing straight to the ground. When walking or jogging, bounce the ball further in front allowing the body to move into it.
SKILL GAMES
Skill Games are designed for children to hone their kicking, marking and handballing skills in a fun situation. These skills are fundamental to the playing of Footy 9s.
GAME DAY
Children will have the opportunity to play a full match of Footy 9s, putting what they have learnt into practise. The focus is on participation and fun.
